It is estimated that at least 70% of pregnant women experience morning sickness – sometimes a minor discomfort, and other times severe enough to require medical attention. So what can you do if you are a mom-to-be or new mom in Akron and struggling with regular bouts of nausea? In this article, you will find some important morning sickness tips that Akron moms have found to be helpful.

Get Plenty of Rest

To keep your morning sickness at bay, you should try to get plenty of sleep and rest. I know, easier said than done! It’s tough to be a mom sometimes, but there are plenty of remedies out there to help!

Make sure you’re getting at least eight hours of sleep each night and try not to nap during the day. This helps regulate your body and your digestive system which keeps nausea minimal.

Pro Tip: Give pregnancy meditations a try before bed!

Eat Small, Frequent Meals

Small, frequent meals are another one of the best morning sickness tips that Akron moms can use to help with their symptoms! Eating small meals every few hours will keep your blood sugar levels steady.

This will help make sure that they do not feel nauseous or weak while they are trying to take care of themselves and their children during this difficult time.

Avoid Foods That Trigger Nausea

If you find yourself having nausea after eating certain foods such as chocolate or bananas, then it’s probably time for a new diet! Try cutting out these trigger foods for a little while until your symptoms improve.

Foods that trigger nausea also include spicy foods, citrus fruits, carbonated drinks, dairy products, etc. This applies to certain smells as well. Learn what they are and don’t judge yourself for needing to avoid them, that’s okay!

Drink Lots of Fluids

It may sound a little too simple, but dehydration is actually a significant  cause of morning sickness symptoms. This is why staying hydrated is one of the most important morning sickness tips. If you’re not drinking enough water (or if your body is dehydrated), try adding more water to your diet—like drinking more herbal tea or soup before bedtime.

Have flavored water around you to sip on, flavored naturally preferably, so that you run less risk of ending up dehydrated.

Take a Prenatal Vitamin

Prenatal vitamins are great for moms-to-be because they contain plenty of nutrients that are important for your baby’s development and health. It also contains iron and folic acid which are nutrients your baby needs during pregnancy. Many doctors recommend taking one every day during pregnancy (or even more often if needed), which will help keep you well-nourished as well!

Prenatal vitamins naturally help reduce nausea as well because they work to align your gut health and the health of your digestive tract!

Try Some Aromatherapy

You might not think that aromatherapy can help with morning sickness, but it actually works! It is one of my favorite morning sickness tips. Some people use essential oils (that are safe for pregnant women!) on their skin to help ease nausea and improve overall mood during pregnancy. If you’re interested in trying this out, consider using peppermint oil or lavender oil for those times, when you need a pick-me-up. Consult your OBGYN first though for the right ones that are safe for you and your baby.
